Don’t know what to post on Instagram.

So you skip a few days on posting. Something great comes up and you post on Instagram. You’re frustrated cause there’s no engagement on your Instagram. You just don’t believe Instagram can work for you like how it worked for others.

It doesn’t matter how many followers you have. Zero followers to a couple thousand followers. We all must engage with our audience for them to engage back. An engagement is defined as a like, comment, or someone sharing your post. The new algorithm is not based on how many followers you have. It’s a complicated algorithm. No one gets it. Many hates it, but I think it’s allowing everyone to be all on the same playing field, unless you’re a celebrity.  But instead of working against it, we’re going to roll with it.

Where do you start?

Make a list of 5 things that you would be okay to share on Instagram. You can share whatever you want. You don’t have do what everyone is doing.

Things you could share

  • Things you like to do? Travel, try new foods, or exercise
  • Things that you are obsessed about besides your business. For example, food, fashion, books, photography, your pets, etc
  • What motivates you?
  • People that are part of your lives. For example, your husband, kids, mother, etc.

Okay now that I’ve got you started. Start making your list.

Now, how are the things going to help or relate to your ideal client. This is the part where most people get lost. If you’re going to post a picture of your dog your caption shouldn’t just say, “Isn’t he cute?”. It doesn’t allow your audience to engage. I would suggest telling a story how you got your dog or tell them the crazy things you do with your dog. Let’s pretend the dog’s name is Sam. Try saying something like this for your post, “My friend asked me to go look at a puppy with her. I decided to just go with no intentions. While she’s looking at the other puppies one randomly comes running at me. I started playing with it and the next thing you know I took him home. His name is Sam. I’d like you to meet Sam. He’s super active and hyper. He makes my heart melt every time. For those who have a dog would totally understand. He just rocks my world.”

This allows your audience to engage because they can totally relate to the story if something happened to them or if they have a dog too.

Goals for every post you create must have an intention so that means your captions are very important.

Yes creating a captions does take some work, but if you post with intentions, you will see results.
