Running a business and raising kids at the same time is no joke. Other fellow mom entrepreneurs would totally agree. There are days when everything is on schedule, and some days, I go with the flow.
In the midst of all, I’m trying to find my balance: create memories with my babies and build my dream business. It’s a challenging task, but I am blessed to have this opportunity.
Here are the things I’m doing to MY find balance:
How I do things might not make sense to someone else, but it works for my family. Every family functions differently and has different needs. I run a business, raising a family, and at the time, we are homeschooling.
I evaluate what is happening in my life and then decide where my time and energy go. It’s not always a 50/50 balance. Some days my business gets 70% of my time, and the family receives 30%. It varies all the time.
It’s so easy, as a mom, to let yourself go. I had friends who had kids in their early twenties and made their kids a priority. They stopped focusing on themselves. They gained weight and lost their purpose and identity.
I promised myself that when I had kids, I would make myself a priority. If I didn’t love and care for myself first, how would I pour unconditional and genuine love into my kids and husband?
I make sure I work out 10- 30 minutes daily and meditate 5-10 minutes 3-4 times a week. How do I find the time? I have the same exact days and hours as you, and I remind myself WHY I do this.
My why? I do it because I have kids later in life, and I want to live as long as I can to see them grow up and see my grandkids. I want to be the healthiest and strongest possible to go on adventures with my husband. Also, I want to feel damn good.
When people hear that my kids are not my #1 priority, I get an ugly stare, or they question me why. I never wanted the glue to my marriage to be the kids.
I know the kids will leave one day, and the businesses will close. The one thing that is forever is my relationship with my husband.
I try to journal for 5 minutes a day. It helps me to release whatever I am feeling out of my body. I don’t want to store all that emotions because it leads to trauma, resentment, and pain later.
Also, it’s a great place to document my life journey and reflect on my personal growth.
I love processes. It makes life a lot easier. Also, it helps everyone in the family know their roles and duties. We have specific days for laundry and grocery shopping.
The kids have morning routines that they follow. Is it perfect? Heck no! But it helps to keep everyone on the same page and in flow. Trust me, I am not running a boot camp.
After having kids, I’ve learned to pick my battles. There are some things I need to just let go of. I ask myself, “Is it worth it for me to exert my energy?” “Will it affect my life where I can’t function anymore?” If I answer no, I move on.
Protecting my energy is critical to my sanity. I only have so much of it. I can’t put out every single fire in my life.
These are the things I am currently doing to keep a balance between work and life. I hope that sharing what I’m doing will help you to start figuring out your work and life balance.
Remember, it doesn’t have to be perfect right from the beginning. Start where you’re at and modify from there. You will find your groove.
